The 2005 L'Extravagant de Doisy Daene, with nearly 200 g/L residual sugar, is a 50/50 blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Medium to deep straw-gold in color, it gives up pure mangos, quince, and acacia honey scents with suggestions of lime leaves, lemongrass, and sea spray. The palate is incredibly youthful, with a racy backbone and super intense citrus fruit, finishing with fantastic purity.

Pale yellow-gold. Deep, brooding, nobly rotten aromas of apricot, pineapple, spices, honey, truffle and game. Fat, thick and honeyed, with a softer and more unctuous texture than the 2007. But the exhilarating notes of musky brown spices give a magically light touch to the palate-staining fruit flavors of pineapple syrup and apricot. Finishes wonderfully sweet and long, with a texture of liquid silk.

Sauternes Fine Wine

Sauternes

Sauternes, a renowned Bordeaux appellation in the Graves region, is famous for its luxurious sweet white wines made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). This fungus concentrates sugars, creating wines with rich sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity. Sauternes wines feature complex aromas and flavours of apricot, honey, peach, citrus, and vanilla, with excellent ageing potential. Top producers include Château d'Yquem, Château Rieussec, Château Suduiraut, and Château Coutet.
